(HARTFORD, Conn.) – Today, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Congressman Chris Murphy (D-CT-5), and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-3) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will give two organizations in Connecticut a total of $574,850 in federal funding for supportive housing for the elderly. This funding will be used for architectural, engineering, and site work. The following institutions will receive grants:
• Canaan, CT – The Geer Corporation – $174,850
• New Haven, CT – The Mutual Housing Association of South Central CT – $400,000
“These grants mean new, improved, affordable housing for Connecticut’s seniors,” said Blumenthal. “This funding is a powerful investment in Connecticut’s communities, and will support our seniors by creating safer and better housing. These projects will help sustain quality of life for many of our most vulnerable, voiceless Americans.”
“We owe so much for the hard work and sacrifice of Connecticut’s seniors. At the very least, they shouldn’t have to worry about access to safe and affordable supportive housing as they age – no matter what their income. I congratulate the Geer Corporation and the Mutual Housing Association of South Central Connecticut for being awarded this funding and am proud that it will result in much-needed additional supportive housing units for low-income elderly in Connecticut,” said Murphy.
“I am happy to see this funding awarded to the Mutual Housing Association of South Central CT, funding that will help provide safe, affordable housing for seniors in the greater New Haven area,” said DeLauro. “MASCC has been a leader in ensuring people of all ages have a roof over their heads and access to a home for themselves and their families.”
