Blumenthal, Murphy, DeLauro Announce $30,000 EPA Grant to Address Water and Air Pollution in New Haven

(Hartford, CT)—Today, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) announced a $30,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to the New Haven Urban Resources Initiative. The funding, through the EPA’s Environmental Small Grants program, will be used to plant trees and enhance community parks.  The funds will also help the city maintain landscaped areas called “bioswales” that filter silt and pollutants from surface water before it flows into brooks, streams and ultimately Long Island Sound. 

“This grant will provide green job training for local residents to help spruce up parks and neighborhoods while addressing critical environmental issues,” said Blumenthal, Murphy, and DeLauro. “We look forward to the positive impact that this funding will have on the community and applaud the New Haven Urban Resources Initiative for making New Haven a greener place to be.”
