Blumenthal, Murphy, & DeLauro Statement Regarding Quinnipiac University Great Hunger Museum Announcement

[HARTFORD, CT] – U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) joined by U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement regarding the proposed move of the Great Hunger Museum, currently located on the campus on Quinnipiac University in Hamden, to Fairfield. The three Congressional Delegation members have been working with the Irish community on the future of the Museum in Connecticut.

“We are pleased that Quinnipiac University has recognized the significant importance of keeping the Great Hunger Museum intact and in Connecticut. The Gaelic-American Club is a great Irish organization and potentially a terrific steward of the museum’s assets. First and foremost, our goal has been to ensure every effort is made to keep the Museum operable in its current location. If that isn’t feasible, then the collection should remain intact and in Connecticut. Further, it is equally important that the museum maintain full time operation with broad accessibility to the public. Lastly, any transition will need to be in accordance with requirements resulting from the pending inquiry by the State Attorney General’s office. We look forward to working with all parties for a result that is the best for this Connecticut treasure and leads to the successful reopening of our Ireland Great Hunger Museum,” said Blumenthal, Murphy, and DeLauro.
