Blumenthal Issues Statement Regarding Impact of FAA Furloughs

(Hartford, CT) -- U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement today regarding the Federal Aviation Administration’s plans to furlough air traffic controllers, potentially resulting in thousands of delays and hundreds of cancelled flights daily:

These furloughs should be delayed by 30 days or more so as to avoid confusion and crowds at airports at a time of heightened security concern. Particularly now, smooth and efficient functioning airports are a core national interest. A delay will give Congress an opportunity to address options for avoiding the costs and inconvenience of delays and cancellations caused by furloughs. As a member of the Commerce Committee, I'll be working this week to advocate for responsible alternatives.
