(Hartford, CT) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement today regarding release by the U.S. General Services Administration of an Environmental Impact Statement recommending a public sale of Plum Island: “This Environmental Impact Statement is deeply disappointing and deficient. It is flawed in failing to recommend measures to preserve open space on Plum Island. The EIS is challengeable and I will support challenges, joining environmental advocates in seeking to protect this unique, priceless open space and natural treasure. The U.S. General Services Administration should work closely with the town of Southhold, New York to ensure that the environmentally sensitive areas of the island remain permanently off limit to future development.” |
