(Hartford, CT) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement today in support of a new report issued today by the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Injury Prevention Center at Connecticut children’s Medical Center/Hartford Hospital titled “Intimate Partner Violence Policies on Campus: Best Practices for College Campuses in Connecticut”:
“Tragically, no campus is immune from intimate partner violence. The CCADV and CCMC report provides important guidance for Connecticut institutions of higher learning about the measures they can take to keep their students safe and to support those who have been the victim of violence, abuse or assault. During my discussions at seven campuses across Connecticut, I found many of the same challenges, barriers and misperceptions, as well as many campus leaders taking positive measures to address the pervasive scourge of sexual assault. The resounding cry on Connecticut campuses is for stronger rights and robust programs to protect all victims of all forms of violence and abuse, a consensus that is confirmed and underscored by today’s powerful report. I applaud CCADV and CCMC for their leadership in this critical fight, and look forward to an ongoing partnership as we continue this effort.”
