(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement today regarding the completion of a second transformer in Mount Vernon to power Metro-North’s New Haven Line, adding capacity and improving efficiency:
“Completion of this project is an important step—belated as it may be—to providing a modern, redundant power supply to the New Haven line. Over 125,000 commuters and our regional economy rely on the safe and reliable operation of Metro-North’s New Haven line, and as last September’s cable failure and extended service disruption underscored, adequate capacity and redundancy for the system’s power supply is vital. I will continue to advocate for additional federal investment to upgrade the aging infrastructure along our rail line to ensure all critical infrastructure, including transformers, cables and tracks are in safe working condition,” Blumenthal said.
