(Hartford, CT) – After a report published today in the Hartford Courant revealed that Keystone Construction & Maintenance Services has paid only $35,715 out of the initial $6.7 million in fines imposed by OSHA for worker-safety violations, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement calling for the situation to be rectified and for steps to be taken to avoid similar arrangements in the future.
"Revelations today that a major participant in the tragic, deadly Kleen Energy Plant explosion has paid only an extremely small portion of its large fine is a disservice to the victims of this horrible catastrophe - especially after OSHA made concessions to the company. It is also unfair to the other companies who are paying their fines. I will be talking with OSHA to determine the current status of payments and how this situation can be rectified here and avoided in the future,” Blumenthal said.
