Blumenthal Introduces CT Native & Historic FCC Chair Nominee Jessica Rosenworcel Before Senate Confirmation Hearing

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) introduced Jessica Rosenworcel, President Biden’s nominee to chair the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), before her nomination hearing in the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

“As a daughter of Connecticut, specifically West Hartford and Wesleyan…I've worked with her closely as have many members of our committee over the years,” said Blumenthal. “And she has really been a distinguished champion, energetic and aggressive champion of consumers, of causes of privacy, and net neutrality.”

Blumenthal praised Rosenworcel’s expertise and work to close the “homework gap” for children, expand broadband access, and fight abusive effects of robocalls, saying, “She's been a champion of making broadband more affordable and addressing that digital divide’s impact on disadvantaged communities. Particularly, I've watched her in Hartford talk about this issue with passion and clarity that this moment really demands, and I know that she will make us proud, as she has already, of her public service when she's confirmed.”

Following today’s hearing, Rosenworcel’s nomination is expected to receive a vote in the committee and if approved, will advance to the full Senate. If confirmed to chair the FCC, Rosenworcel will be the first woman to serve as the permanent chair of the FCC in its nearly ninety year history.

Jessica Rosenworcel has served as an FCC Commissioner since 2012, and was named Acting Chair in January of this year. Prior to her time as a Commissioner, Rosenworcel served as Senior Communications Counsel for the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and as a Senior Legal Adviser to the FCC. Rosenworcel is a native of West Hartford, Connecticut and a graduate of Wesleyan University and New York University School of Law.
