(Washington DC) – Today, President Obama named 97 mathematics and science teachers as recipients of the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Two of the teachers named were from Connecticut: Karen Thomas, math teacher of Westport, and Tyler Hoxley, science teacher of East Hartford.
"These extraordinary teachers are laying the foundation for our economic future – because science and math are so critical to jobs and investment," Blumenthal said. "Visiting small businesses and manufacturers, I hear constantly about the need for more science and math training – exactly the disciplines that these two remarkable educators are recognized for teaching."
