(Washington, DC) – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement this afternoon at the conclusion of a Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee hearing on improving for-profit higher education:
“In for-profit education, as in any emerging industry, we must work to ensure that consumers have unfettered access to the best information possible, so that they can make informed decisions for themselves and their families – which means increasing transparency and accountability at every stage of the decision-making process. Members of our armed forces and veterans in particular should have the benefit of clear standards and strong enforcement against possible for-profit college abuses. Today’s hearing is an important step in bringing stakeholders together to ensure that the thousands of students across the country – including low-income and minority students, and veterans – are well-served as they work to educate themselves.”
