[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after attending the inauguration of Joe Biden, who was sworn in today as the 46th President of the United States:
“What an amazing moment. Hope and healing were given new meaning today. It brought tears to my eyes and restored my faith in American leaders. I felt the promise of a new beginning in the face of all the grief and pain that we’ve seen – a reason for joy and pride in our resilience and grit.”
“President Biden reminded us that a better world is not something that is given – it requires hard work. Unity is not inevitable, but it is achievable. As I looked out the length of the National Mall without people but filled with American flags, I thought of all the people and loved ones who have sacrificed and suffered loss – and the threats and challenges to our nation that must be overcome. But what was maybe most striking to me is the sense of joy and determination in this wondrous renewal of democracy. Now begins the hard work.”
