Blumenthal Applauds Rite Aid Decision to Offer Naloxone Without Prescription in Connecticut

(Hartford, CT) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement today praising news that Rite Aid will now offer Naloxone without prescription in 13 states, including Connecticut:

Naloxone saves lives, and I applaud Rite Aid’s action to make it more accessible and available. Combating the opioid abuse crisis will take major, coordinated action from all sectors, and I welcome Rite Aid as an ally in this fight. All across Connecticut, I have heard from families who have lost children and loved ones to opioid abuse, and from people who fight every day to overcome their own addictions to these deadly drugs. Narcan can bring people back from the brink of death. I will continue to advocate for affordable access to this life-saving antidote, as well as enhanced public education, physician training and more law enforcement resources.”

On April 15, Blumenthal released a comprehensive report entitled Opioid Addiction: A Call to Action, which unveiled a multi-pronged plan of action developed following nine roundtables Blumenthal held across Connecticut with first responders, law enforcement, addiction recovery experts, and people personally affected by opioid addiction.
