(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued a statement following Senate passage of legislation by a vote of 95-3 that will reverse the cost of living adjustment (COLA) reduction for military retirees authorized through the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013. The bill, which passed the House yesterday by a vote of 326-90, is now headed for the President’s desk.
“I was proud to champion, fight and vote for this critical measure that restores justice to the federal pension system for military retirees. Three months ago, I vowed to correct this wrong that was included in the Budget Act of 2013, and I am pleased that today we accomplished just that. Let us never again balance our budget on the backs of our brave veterans. Let us keep those pensions at the level that we promised to the military retirees who have kept our rights and freedoms strong.”
