(Hartford, CT) – Senator Richard Blumenthal today released the following statement in response to the U.S. Navy’s awarding of $1.2 billion for the construction of the 14th Virginia-class submarine to General Dynamics Electric Boat. The awarding of these funds will keep Electric Boat on track to produce the planned two Virginia-class submarines this year.
“This funding for a second Virginia-class submarine is vital to the continued success of our Navy and military preparedness. We owe our service members nothing less than full support for the best technology and equipment that will enable them to keep us safe and free,” said Blumenthal. “Strong support for submarine building also means jobs and economic growth for our state. This funding is a result of a real team effort from the entire Connecticut delegation.”
