(Hartford, CT) -- Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) issued the following statement regarding President Barack Obama's planned visit to Connecticut on April 8:
"President Obama’s visit is proof yet again that the Connecticut effect is not going away. His visit sends a strong message to the state and nation -- we must act now to reduce gun violence. Less than four months have passed since the Newtown tragedy, and already more than 3,000 additional lives have been lost to gun violence -- including more than 50 innocent children. Congress must act on common sense life-saving legislation to get the weapons of war off our streets, provide law enforcement the tools they need to enforce the laws on the books, improve the safety of our schools, and strengthen our mental health system."
