[HARTFORD, CT] – Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), member of the Special Committee on Aging, and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) introduced a bipartisan resolution designating June 2024 as Elder Abuse Awareness Month and commending those who advocate for America’s senior population.
“This resolution recognizes the importance of safeguarding older Americans from mistreatment, exploitation, and scams. As a member of the Special Committee on Aging, I've heard countless stories of abuse from seniors across the country, and I remain steadfast in my efforts to promote their rights, security, and wellbeing. This resolution solidifies our commitment to ensuring these vulnerable individuals receive the proper care and concern they deserve,” said Blumenthal.
“Senior citizens deserve security and peace of mind. Yet every year, approximately one in 10 of America’s 55 million seniors are subject to abuse, neglect or financial exploitation,” said Grassley. “Our resolution promotes efforts to protect seniors’ rights and hold abusers accountable.”
