[JERUSALEM, ISRAEL] – One year since Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing hundreds and taking more hostage, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) traveled to Israel to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior government and military leadership.
“Today in Israel, the pain and grief are deep and moving. A strong, thriving Israel is essential to America’s own national security,” Blumenthal said. “We reiterated our commitment to bring home all the hostages – including those brutally murdered. I hope that diplomacy may achieve a cessation of fighting, leading to the return of the hostages, and a path toward normalizing relations in the region, along with humanitarian aid and rebuilding.”
“I’m in Israel today on this first solemn anniversary of Hamas’ horrific attack on Israel with my good friend, Senator Blumenthal. October 7, 2023 is the day that will live in infamy among the Israeli people. We are here together to share their pain and to try to find a way forward for the region,” said Graham. “This is one of the most important trips I’ve ever taken, and it is my hope that Hamas’ barbaric October 7 attack will not stop the march toward peace.”
Additional details regarding the trip will be available in the coming days.
