Blumenthal Statement on Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Announcement

(HARTFORD, CT) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) released the following statement following news that Pfizer and the federal government have reached an agreement to provide up to 600 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, should it prove to be safe and effective and it’s use be authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

“Connecticut researchers and innovators are once again on the cutting edge of technology and science. With hopeful news about vaccine progress, Connecticut scientists and leaders in clinic trials are among our heroes richly deserving thanks for their excellent work toward a safe and effective vaccine. Developing a COVID-19 vaccine – and distributing it widely and fairly – are essential for all Americans. I will hold this administration accountable to ensure equitable, universal access. Until an effective vaccine is widely available, our new normal of masks and physical distancing must continue. We cannot be complacent.”
